Cutaway of the
Russell Speed Bleeder

Tech Tip:

After installing your new Cycleflex brake lines, your brake system will have to be bled, of course. Russell has a couple of tips that will make this task much faster and easier. First, we suggest that you prime your new lines before installation. Using the proper brake fluid and an eyedropper or small syringe, squirt brake fluid into one end of the line until it comes out the other end. You do not have to completely fill the line, as long as the inside of the TeflonŽ liner is coated with fluid. Now install the line using new sealing washers and torquing the banjo bolts to factory specifications. Another tip is to now install Russell’s patented new Speed Bleeder in place of the original bleeder valve in the caliper. The Speed Bleeder has a spring-loaded stainless steel check ball in it that allows for one person brake bleeding. Simply crack the Speed Bleeder open 1/4 to 1/2 turn and continuously pump the brakes. Every time you pump, the check ball is pushed off its seat, allowing the fluid and air out. Between pumps, the spring closes the check ball, preventing any air from getting back into the system. Make sure you keep the master cylinder reservoir full, and when all the air is bled out of the lines, tighten the Speed Bleeder down and you’re done! Speed Bleeders are available in many different sizes to fit motorcycles, cars, trucks, and virtually anything else with hydraulic brakes or clutch. Following these two tips can make bleeding your new Cycleflex lines much less troublesome and time consuming.
