In 1999 Paul Eisenburg thought that since it wasn't practical for all members to meet in person, we could at least meet in spirit. And so was born the XJ World Relay -- a kind of global Pony Express.

The Australians provided a knapsack worthy of their rugged reputation and, piloted by two little penguins, sent it on it's way. New Zealand, Hawaii, California. Down through the southern United States and up the Eastern Seaboard. From there through the United Kingdom and across the channel into mainland Europe. Over the alps for a swing through Eastern Europe and up to Finland, where the penguins took a bit of a break for a while. Once rested, it was back across the continent to Canada and the Northern US states. It took almost 4 years and almost 300 riders, but we made it. The globe circumnavigated on the back of various XJ motorcycles.

It now rests in the National Motorcycle Museum, Anamosa, IA.

In keeping with the archival nature of this page, here is a reprint of the XJCD v3 dedication in memory of Jeff Mountin, a mountain of a man who is still sorely missed.
